Ride-hailing in Seoul
Metered taxis from numbered ranks outside arrivals, with surcharges that are published rather than negotiated.
Use the designated ranks on the first floor. At Terminal 1 standard taxis are at 5C, 6C and 6D, international taxis at 4C, deluxe and jumbo at 7C and 8C. At Terminal 2, Seoul-bound standard taxis are at 7C, Incheon-bound at 5D, Gyeonggi-bound at 6D, international at 3C.
The airport warns that illegal solicitation and overcharging by call vans posing as taxis are common, and tells passengers to use the designated taxi stands.
Standard taxis start at 4,800 won in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi, covering the first 2km; deluxe and jumbo taxis start at 7,000 won at the airport. Beyond the base distance it runs at roughly 100 won per 130 to 150 metres.
A night surcharge of roughly 20 to 40 per cent applies between 22:00 and 04:00, reaching 40 per cent between 23:00 and 02:00 on Seoul and Incheon standard taxis. The expressway toll of 7,900 won is added on top of the meter. The boundary surcharge does not apply on a run into Seoul: it is charged only beyond Seoul, Incheon, Goyang, Gwangmyeong, Gimpo and Bucheon, at 20 per cent for Seoul and Gyeonggi taxis and 30 per cent for Incheon ones.
Kakao T is the app most people use, but it needs a Kakao account made through KakaoTalk. The tourism authority also lists k.ride, TADA, TABA and MOVV, which sign up on an international mobile number, a Google or Apple ID, or a foreign credit card.
International taxis are the official foreign-language service. From the airport to Seoul they charge from a fare table by regional section rather than the meter; within Seoul or leaving it, they run on the meter plus 20 per cent.
