Saudi Arabia's national meteorological service describes a semi-arid to dry desert climate with hot days, cool nights and very low annual rainfall; maximum temperatures run 35-45C in summer (Jun-Aug) and 20-30C in winter (Dec-Feb).

Rain in central Saudi Arabia (Riyadh's region) falls in winter, brought by Mediterranean weather systems; summer monsoon rain is a southwestern phenomenon, not a Riyadh one.

The heat is treated as a legal occupational hazard: the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development bans private-sector outdoor work daily from 12:00 to 15:00 between June 15 and September 15 (2026 enforcement confirmed via the state press agency). Plan outdoor errands and sightseeing outside those hours in summer.

Spring (Mar-May) already reaches 30-40C maxima and autumn (Sep-Nov) 25-35C, so "shoulder season" in Riyadh is still hot by most crews' standards.
