Getting out of the airport in Sydney
Trains run from the arrivals levels of the International and Domestic terminals and reach the city in 13 minutes, but every airport tap adds a station access fee on top of the fare.
Sydney Airport puts the train at 13 minutes to the city with trains running approximately every 10 minutes. The International station is reached from the arrivals level past Arrivals Hall A; the single Domestic station is reached from the arrivals levels of T2 and T3. Transport for NSW runs T8 Airport and South Line services every day between 5am and midnight, so a very late sign-off is a road trip.
A station access fee is charged in addition to the train fare at Sydney Domestic and Sydney International stations: A$18.61 adult, A$16.64 child, youth, concession or senior. An adult Opal single trip ticket carries a higher access fee of A$19.00.
The access fee sits outside the ordinary fare caps: Transport for NSW states plainly that station access fees are not included in your Opal daily or weekly travel cap. The ordinary adult caps are A$19.30 a day Monday to Thursday and A$50 a week, and the access fees are capped separately at A$37.75 a week for an adult, A$33.83 for child, youth, concession and senior.
Opal card, contactless debit or credit card, digital wallet and Opal single tickets all work at the gates. The fee is deducted automatically from an Opal card or contactless payment, and is added to the price of an Opal single trip ticket when you buy it, so there is nothing to arrange in advance.
From a taxi rank, one-way trips to the designated Sydney CBD area are a fixed A$60 for a standard taxi including wheelchair accessible services, and A$80 for a maxi-taxi if there are five or more passengers or if a maxi-taxi is requested. Fixed fares are inclusive of all taxes, fees, levies and road tolls; a card payment surcharge or cleaning fee may still apply.
