Ride-hailing in New York
Uber and Lyft operate at JFK, but the pickup point is not always the kerb: Terminals 5 and 7 send you out to Howard Beach on the AirTrain.
Uber and Lyft are the ride apps JFK names. Uber Shuttle, a shared shuttle service booked through the Uber app, runs to Port Authority at 42nd Street and Greenwich Village, with seats reservable in advance.
Pickups are generally in front of the terminal, but ride app pickup for Terminals 5 and 7 has been temporarily relocated to a designated lot at the AirTrain Howard Beach station because of construction. The airport dates the change 2 May 2025 and lists it as ongoing.
The AirTrain is free within the airport, including trips to the Howard Beach ride app and car services pickup lot, so reaching the relocated point costs nothing but time.
JFK's warning is blunt: be careful of anyone not wearing an official uniform offering transportation or luggage help, because they may be unlicensed, uninsured or operating illegally. Use the official pickup areas for authorised vehicles.
